DANGEROUS TRIPS

Teanupoo, Taiarapu-Ouest, Tahiti

Surfing is a perilous sport in and of itself, but the risk increases exponentially when Tahiti's famous Teahupoo wave becomes a factor. The top-heavy swells of the wave can reach heights of up to 21 feet, making it a popular destination for professional (and daring) surfers.
There have been five recorded deaths at Teahupoo since 2000, mainly due to the razor-sharp coral reef located a mere 20 inches below the water's surface.

  1. After reading your post the only thing that came to me is if I would be able to do surfing after knowing that this can actually happen. I think that if a wave like that came to me I couldn't do anything to save my life and I will be just stunned there. And later if I survive to this I couldn't practice surfing again. Do you think that you could try again surfing after living in your own that dangerous situation?
